Irvingia gabonensis, an extract from the dikka nut from the wild African Mango, has been prized for centuries as a weight loss aid. More recently it’s cholesterol and blood glucose lowering capabilities have also been recognised. Irvingia gabonensis also contains particularly high levels of ‘good’ fats, has an extraordinarily high fibre content in addition to being an excellent source of vitamins and minerals including magnesium, iron, sodium, calcium, potassium, 18 amino acids and powerful antioxidant nutrients.

In a 10 week study in 2009 published in the March 2009, Journal ‘Lipids in Health and Disease’, 102 overweight adults were given African Mango, or placebo, to take twice a day before meals. Researchers found that cholesterol and blood sugar levels improved significantly in those taking the extract. These beneficial changes provided considerable protection against diabetes and cardiovascular disease (as well as fat loss benefits).

Dr. Mehmet Oz, M.D., Professor of Surgery at Columbia University, who featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show hundreds of times and has a national TV show says African Mango seed Extract is a “miracle in your medicine cabinet - it is effective at collecting cholesterol, taking it out of your body and as a safe, natural and effective weight-loss treatment”. As to its weight loss abilities the 10 week study concluded adults who used the extract had lost an average of 28.1 pounds, and shed 6.7” from their waistline, while the placebo group showed an average of only 1.5 pounds in weight loss.
